Railway Roundhouse Leeds

Picture of railway roundhouse Leeds.

Many people drive past this unusual shaped building on the edge of Leeds city centre daily. I would think that few people passing give much thought to the truck hire business premises as they drive on by.

The building is round and was built in 1847 as a railway roundhouse with adjacent locomotive repair workshshop. Today the listed building is Grade II* because it is the oldest surviving railway roundhouse in the country. Last week the Leeds Civic Trust unveiled a blue plaque in its honour.

These days this former railway building is home to Leeds Commercial Van and Truck Rental. The building is on the A58 on the way out of Leeds and past the old Yorkshire Post building just beyond the old workshops that now house amongst other business Majestic Wines.
